Sometimes colorized photographs can be better than the originals

For the most part, this collection of iconic photographs colorized by various authors will probably leave you cold. But some of them—like this atomic bomb explosion in the Bikini Atoll—surpass the original black and white images. In this case, it’s perhaps because the starker contrast between destruction and paradise.

Photographer as Witness: A Portrait of Domestic Violence

Photographer Sara Naomi Lewkowicz’s photographs document one such violent incident — the kind that’s often kept private behind closed doors.

Choo Yut Shing took this amazing photo of a truly awesome snake lantern slithering down a street in Singapore City’s Chinatown district as part of Chinese New Year celebrations. The beautiful lantern was actually made up of 850 individual yellow sky lanterns and spanned a spectacular length of 300 metres (nearly 985 feet) “from the junction of Upper Cross Street and South Bridge Road to Sago Street.”
